Store croissants at room temperature in an airtight bag or tightly wrapped. Do not refrigerate them, since refrigerator air dries them out faster. For the freshest results, freeze extras right away and refresh in the oven when you are ready to eat.
Croissants are best the day they are baked. At room temperature, they are typically at their best for 1–2 days if stored tightly wrapped. For longer storage, freezing is the best option.
Croissants are most closely associated with France, where they became a bakery staple, inspired by earlier crescent-shaped pastries in Central Europe. Over time, French bakers developed the laminated, buttery style most people know today.
Croissants get their signature flavor and texture from laminated dough, which creates many thin layers of butter and pastry. When baked, those layers become crisp and flaky on the outside and tender inside.
Freeze them. Tightly wrap each croissant in plastic wrap, then freeze. When you are ready, warm them at 350°F for a few minutes until warmed through.
